Summer is the perfect season for RV adventures. The warm weather and long days offer endless opportunities for exploring new destinations, relaxing by the campfire, and enjoying the great outdoors. To make the most of your summer RV Life or RV trip, the right summer gear for RVers is crucial. From keeping cool to staying bug-free, here are some of my favorite summer essentials that every RVer should consider bringing along.
One of the biggest challenges during summer RV trips, especially when boondocking, is staying cool. A portable rechargeable fan is a must-have. Look for a fan with multiple speed settings and long battery life to ensure you can keep cool even during the hottest parts of the day. My favorite is this minimalist Personal Battery Operated Desk Fan. It’s rechargeable with a long-lasting 2000mAh Battery, Power Display, and 180° Tilt, and it folds up for easy storage when not in use.
Cooking outdoors is a quintessential part of the RV experience and can help keep your RV cooler on those hot summer days. The Coleman Classic Propane Stove is a favorite among RVers. It’s easy to set up, has two adjustable burners, and provides consistent performance, allowing you to cook delicious meals no matter where you are.
Summer evenings can be magical, but they can also bring out the bugs. A high-quality bug light can help keep your campsite bug-free, allowing you to enjoy your evenings without constant swatting. The Thermacell Mosquito Repellent Lantern is highly rated for its effectiveness. You can repel mosquitoes without DEET sprays or lotions on your skin. It contains unscented repellent mats that last up to 4 hours each and change color when it is time to replace. No smoke, no flame, safe for pets, and easy to refill. I love mine!
Staying hydrated is crucial, especially in the summer heat. This fun RV-themed water bottle features a double-wall stainless steel build that keeps your drinks frosty for up to 24 hours and soothingly hot for 12 hours. It’s BPA-free and comes with a twist-on lid for easy sipping, making it excellent for daily use. It’s the perfect addition to every RVers summer gear collection.
Sun protection is vital during summer RV trips. Make sure to pack a good sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and polarized sunglasses to protect yourself from harmful UV rays. The Columbia Unisex Bora Bora Booney hat is the one I wore on my 576-mile PCT hike and it offers excellent sun protection and comfort.
Don’t forget the sunscreen! Be kind to your skin and the environment with Blue Lizard Mineral Sunscreen. It is Paraben-free & fragrance-free, vegan and SPF 50+. If you find yourself traveling to Hawaii or Mexico, this sunscreen does not contain oxybenzone or octinoxate and is reef-safe.
Relaxing in a hammock is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the tranquility of nature. The Wise Owl Outfitters Camping Hammock is lightweight, easy to set up, and perfect for stargazing or taking a nap during the day. Sadie and I love our hammock!
Protect your feet on the trail with the right hiking boots. These HISEA Hiking Boots offer support and traction. I loved mine! They’re lightweight and comfortable. Stay comfortable and confident during your summer hikes.
If your adventure takes you to sandy or muddy parts, you’ll want BUNKER INDUST Off-Road Traction Boards. They provide reliable traction in the most challenging conditions, making it easy to get unstuck and continue your journey. Compact and durable, they’re perfect for off-road enthusiasts exploring remote destinations.
If you’re a boondocker, conserving water is a way of life. That means staying fresh on the road can be a challenge. The Advanced Elements 5 Gallon Summer Shower is an excellent solution. It heats up quickly in the sun and provides enough water for a refreshing shower without the waste. Please, remember to use eco-friendly soap and shampoo when showering outside and use at least 100 feet from creeks, rivers, lakes, ponds, or desert washes.
Preparing for your summer RV life or trip with the right gear can make all the difference in your comfort and enjoyment. From keeping cool with a portable fan to cooking up a storm on a camping stove, these essentials ensure you have everything you need for a memorable adventure.
